SAARP Mission

SAARP believes that senior citizens are entitled to a secure and rewarding existence in line with the highest moral principles of mankind. We work with vigour to enrich lives, raise self-esteem and influence society to support these ideals.

Healthcare

Plain reality dictates that we have an increasing need for medical care and health products as we grow older. This is also possibly the most difficult and expensive need for people in the later phases of life. Whilst we would like to be able offer members a Medical Aid, the cost structure is prohibitive. If the Government implements the much vaunted REF (Rates Equalisation Fund) SAARP intends to immediately become involved in finalising currently mothballed negotiations to register our own medical aid fund. Until then however, the alternatives will have to do.

Currently we have short-term healthcare products on offer which are supplementary to medical aid.

Agreement with MEDI-CLINIC

We have entered into a cooperation agreement with the Medi-Clinic group of companies who have created what that is known as Medi-Clinic Senior, which places additional benefits at the disposal of members. The following information explaining benefits of the agreement is taken from the Medi-Clinic website.

As we grow older, we become more health conscious. We focus more on quality time with friends and family and pursue activities for which we might not have had the time before. Because Medi-Clinic would like to enrich your quality of life, we have developed the Medi-Clinic Senior programme specifically focusing on people who are 60 years and older.

Vision and spectacles

We have arrangements with nationally represented companies like Spec-Savers who provide visionary aids at specially negotiated prices country wide. There is even a service with which, by prior arrangement, we can organize for mobile testing facilities to visit retirement villages, thereby enabling members to have the services brought to them on a specific day.

Members making use of this facility are requested to go about it as follows:

  • Pay for the service in cash.
  • Obtain proof of expenditure and any necessary documentation.
  • Submit this documentation to the Medical Aid for a refund.

Please note that requesting a discount to be processed in a claims submission to Spectra-med will disqualify you for the discount. The object is to try and keep claims within the Medical Aid limits and avoid having to make a co-payment.

Hearing Aids

A negotiated scheme with Impact Hearing gives members a R750-00 discount on the purchase of one of 4 well-known makes of hearing aids. Even if there is no direct Impact Hearing consultancy in your area, you can get the discount - in the form of a refund from Impact Hearing - by purchasing one of these makes of hearing aids and providing proof of purchase to Impact Hearing.
